AK Senate President Stevens Reacts in Press Release to Governor Palin’s Resignation

(JUNEAU) – Senate President Gary Stevens (R-Kodiak) today commented on the resignation of Governor Sarah Palin. On Friday (July 3rd), Governor Palin announced that she will resign her post on July 26th and hand the governorship over to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell.

President Stevens thanked Governor Palin for her service. “She has been a historic and inspirational leader for our state and we wish her success in all her future endeavors,” said Senator Stevens.

President Stevens said he is looking forward to working with Governor-Designee Parnell. “I have known Sean for many years and look forward to working with him in his new capacity. His experience in Alaskan politics, as well as his wisdom and judgment, will serve him well as our state’s chief executive. I am enthusiastic about getting down to business with him and mapping out the priorities for the next legislative session,” said Senator Stevens.

Senator Stevens said that he and other members of the Senate leadership team have scheduled meetings with the incoming Governor after he takes office, and Stevens is confident that Parnell will make the transition to Governor smoothly and efficiently.
