Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young released the following statement today on the passing of Rep. Richard Foster:
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted today in favor of H.R. 2997, the Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for FY 2010 Conference Report. The conference report includes $70 million for rural water and waste water disposal grants for Native Americans, including Native Alaskans, the
Coloniasand residents of Hawaiian Homelands. Alaska is expected to receive about $24.5 million of that total.
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted yes today on H.R. 2647, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. The conference report for H.R. 2647 sets a comprehensive annual defense policy and authorizes budget authority for the Department of Defense (DoD) for Fiscal Year 2010. The legislation authorizes over $550.2 billion for standard operations of the DoD and Department of Energy national security
programs, as well as $130 billion for funding ongoing military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. This bill also contains a provision paying out the pensions of about two dozen elderly members of the World War II-era Alaska Territorial Guard.
Washington, D.C. –Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted this afternoon in favor of H.R. 2647, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. This bill contained a provision championed by *Rep. Young* since the original legislation was introduced two years ago, to provide for retirement equity for Federal employees in non-foreign areas outside the Lower 48 and Washington, D.C. *Rep. Young* worked with House Armed Services Chairman Ike Skelton to include the language in today’s bill which will replace the cost of living allowances (COLA) for federal employees in Alaska with the locality pay system that has long been in place in the Lower 48.
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted yes today on H.R. 3590, the Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act and H.R. 1016, the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, both of which he cosponsored.
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young is pleased to announce constituent projects of interest to Alaska totaling over $48,000,000 in H.R. 3183, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2010. This legislation appropriates money for the Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program and the Department of Energy. The bill passed by a vote of 308-114.
Washington, d.c. – The House passed H.R. 3663 by voice vote today, a bill that would delay a deadline by which pharmacies that supply durable medical equipment would be required to obtain accreditation under the Medicare program. Attached is a letter written by Alaska’s Congressional Delegation to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius asking her to exempt state-licensed pharmacists from the accreditation and
surety bond requirements for suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthodontics, and supplies.
Washington, d.c. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young led a hearing in the U.S.Committee on Natural Resources today on his bill H.R. 1054, which would amend the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 to allow importation of polar bear trophies taken in sport hunts in Canada before the date the polar bear was determined to be a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
Washington, d.c. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young has signed on to H.Res. 721, a bipartisan resolution declaring that Members and the public should have 30 days to review the final health care reform bill, in hard copy and online, before it goes to a vote on the House floor.
Washington, d.c. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young joined his colleagues on both sides of the aisle this afternoon in voting yes on legislation protecting Medicare beneficiaries from an unfair Part B premium increase. H.R. 3631, the Medicare Premium Fairness Act, would prevent any Medicare beneficiary from receiving a Part B premium increase in 2010, in light of indications that seniors may not receive an annual Cost-Of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in their Social Security benefits next year.
