Press Release Says, Governor Parnell Moves to Extend Glacier Highway

December 7, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell announced today that the state will extend the Glacier Highway in Juneau to better provide safe access to the Cascade Point area and public lands north of the capital city. The current 2.9-mile road from Echo Cove to Cascade Point is only 20 feet wide, does not have a drivable surface and has not been open to the public.

Press Release Says, Ketchikan Shipyard to Deliver Chevron Legacy Chevron Canada to Receive New Marine Fueling Vessel

(Anchorage) – The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) announced that a delivery ceremony for the newly constructed Chevron Legacy will be held at the Ketchikan Shipyard at 5:30 PM on December 1. Governor Sean Parnell is scheduled to deliver keynote remarks at the ceremony, which celebrates the first steel marine vessel manufactured in Alaska for export in the international shipbuilding market, a notable achievement for any US shipyard. The new 116′ Chevron Legacy marine fueling station will replace Chevron’s existing Coal Harbour Marina in Vancouver, British Columbia, and will double the current facility’s diesel fueling capacity.

November 18, 2009, Anchorage Alaska – Recognizing that resource development jobs in Alaska face a serious threat from environmental groups, Governor Sean Parnell today announced he is committing additional resources to fight the misuse of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The governor’s proposed operating budget for Fiscal Year 2011 will include a new attorney position at the Department of Law solely dedicated to ESA issues. The governor will also include $800,000 for outside legal counsel to help with the effort.
