U.S. Senator Mark Begich released the following statement regarding President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“President Obama struck the right tone between optimism about America’s future and determination about the enormous challenges our country faces, many of which he inherited. As he should have, he spent the most time addressing plans to help create jobs for Americans and get our economy back on track. That’s been my focus the past year – with the Recovery Act, new Alaska oil and gas development and military base expansion – and is my priority for the future.

Good Afternoon-
It is official, the plane landed, the gavel convened us and the Governor gave his first State of the State address to the Legislature; we’re back and have begun our work in this second session.
I would like to share with you a small excerpt from the Governor’s speech and add my sympathies and respect… Governor Parnell, “Tonight, we remember the people of Haiti and the extreme loss of life and economic devastation due to recent earthquakes. We honor our servicemen and women, both guard and active duty, who deployed yesterday morning as part of Operation Unified Relief to assist the Haitians in their hour of need.” (1/20/10)
The Senate hot topics will focus on energy, fiscal responsibility, education, safe communities, jobs and our economy. We have 87 days to go – it is time to get down to business!
