Finance Committee Already at Work on Budgets
At work right out of the gate of the new session, the full House Finance Committee has already convened for two hearings. Both meetings were basically big-picture views of the governor’s spending proposals this year, so the subject matter included appropriations in not only the Op-erating and Capital Budgets but also funding associated with the Mental Health Budget and the General Obligation bond bill that’s before the legislature.
New Edgmon Legislation Introduced for Low-Interest Entry Permit Loans
This session I introduced a new bill that would amend the Commercial Fishing Loan Act to allow lower-interest loans for entry permits under Section B of the revolving loan fund. We’re looking forward to a first hearing on the bill next Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the House Fisheries Committee.
Jodie McDonnell from Naknek Joins the Staff
I’d like to introduce everyone to our newest staffer, Jodie McDonnell, who many of you may know comes from Naknek. Only three days into the ses-sion, she’s already doing a great job.

A Sampling of Infrastructure Projects
Ramping Up and On-Going in District 37
Now that the governor has signed the legislature’s FY11 Capital Budget, many of our communi-ties can move forward on projects included in that funding. All of this work will in some way con-tribute to our mainstay fishing and fish-processing industries. Some of this development is long overdue, and a number of towns are looking forward to reaching milestones on projects that have been the focus of many years of effort. Here is a little about just a few around the district, along with updates on road and bridge work on-going in the Dillingham/Aleknagik area.
