COLD BAY COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERY ANNOUNCEMENT # 13

Commercial salmon fishing will be allowed in the Beaver Bay, Balboa Bay, Southwest Stepovak, Northwest Stepovak, and East Stepovak sections of the Southeastern District for 59 hours from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 14 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16.

Closed Waters Adjustment: Waters within the Northwest Stepovak Section of the Southeastern District (near Suzy Creek), the waters east of 160° 19.00′ W. long. (in Dorenoi Bay), west of the cape separating Chichagof Bay and West Cove (160° 14.57′ W. long.) and north of 55° 37.33′ N. lat., are closed to commercial salmon fishing. In addition, commercial salmon fishing will be allowed in the Shumagin Islands portion of the Southeastern District for 59 hours from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 14 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16. Note: The commercial salmon fishing periods being provided in the Southeastern District are for the harvest of coho salmon. The department continues to have concerns for the escapement of chum salmon and will monitor the harvest of chum salmon closely. Additional opportunity will be dependent on the catch per unit effort (CPUE) of both chum and coho salmon. Fishermen are reminded that from July 29 through September 30 closed waters within the East Stepovak and Stepovak Flats sections include waters north of a line extending east from Dent Point 55° 47.25′ N. lat., 159° 52.00 W. long. to a point on the Kupreanof Peninsula at 55° 46.93′ N. lat., 159° 38.70′ W. long. Additional closed waters in the above locations are described in the Commercial Salmon Fishing Regulations (5AAC 09.350). Statistical charts and harvest strategies are available at the Sand Point, Cold Bay, and Port Moller Fish and Game offices.
