Fishermen will soon have a place to moor their boats in Akutan. Construction crews began digging late last month to build a $35-million small boat harbor that will help
support the local seafood processing industry. (That total does not include inner harbor work, such as floats.) Knik Construction, the company under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is scheduled to finish the project by September 2012. The new harbor is expected to provide space for 30 vessels, from 110 feet to 155 feet in length, in addition to smaller vessels.
