For 2010-2011, Shumagin Corporation has allocated 35 buffalo for hunting. Buffalo tags will be issued to winners of a drawing, subject to the following rules:

  1. The drawing will be open to any of the Shumagin Corporation Shareholders and to anyone who has been a resident of Sand Point for at least one year.
  2. Entry fee for the drawing is $150.00. This entry fee is non-refundable! No exceptions. The entry fee must be paid with cash or cashiers check or money order.
  3. Only one ticket may be purchased by each household.
  4. Tickets will be on sale at the Shumagin Corporation offices from September 30th, 2010 through 12:00 noon on October 29th, 2010.
  5. When a ticket is purchased, the buyer will receive a numbered ticket and a copy of the hunt rules.
  6. The drawing will take place on October 29th, 2010 at the Shumagin Corporation office starting at 1:00P.M., in two stages. First, only tickets belonging to the Shumagin Corporation shareholders will be placed into the container. 25 names will be drawn from this batch of tickets. The remainder of the tickets (non-shareholders) will then be added to the container, and another 10 names will be drawn. This procedure will guarantee that at least 25 tags are awarded to the Shumagin Corporation shareholders. The list of winners will be posted at the Shumagin Corporation office.
  7. Drawing winners will be required to agree to donate 30 pounds of choice meat from their buffalo to an elder approved by the Shumagin Corporation. Drawing winners have an obligation to the designated elder, and therefore must make every effort to take their buffalo. The responsibility to provide the 30 pounds of meat to the designated elder is the responsibility of the drawing winner, and not of the Shumagin Corporation.
  8. Drawing winners will need to present themselves at the Shumagin Corporation offices prior to hunting to obtain a tag, select an observer, sign a hold-harmless agreement, and sign an agreement to provide a designated elder with 30 pounds of choice meat.
  9. No hunt may take place until the drawing winner has obtained a tag, selected an observer, signed a hold-harmless agreement, and been assigned an elder.
  10. A permit holder may designate a shooter at the time of receiving a tag.
  11. The winning ticket cannot be sold, transferred, bought, or bartered. A transfer can only take place if authorized in writing, and if a new tag has been issued. Such authorization will be given only in extraordinary circumstances. If it is your intention to have someone else shoot your buffalo if you win the drawing, and you are not qualified to name a “designated shooter” pursuant to paragraph 14, above, you should put that person’s name into the drawing rather than your own name.
  12. The hunt is to take place from November 1st, 2010 through January 31st, 2011. There will be no extensions. If a drawing winner does not take a buffalo by January 31st, 2011 he/she forfeits their tag, and their fee is not refunded.
  13. The hunt can only take place in the presence of an approved observer. The only observers allowed are those that have been designated by the Shumagin Corporation. Any person who hunts in the absence of an approved observer will be barred from future drawings for buffalo tags, or participating in buffalo hunts in any capacity, for a period of ten years.
  14. This hunt is only for adult buffalo, with the observer being required to approve the buffalo to be taken in advance.
  15. The Shumagin Corporation reserves the right to terminate the hunt and revoke the tag for any holder who is found to be violating the rules of the hunt, or if the designated observer determines that the ticket holder is conducting himself in an unsafe manner.
  16. Hunters must use a high-powered rifle, with a minimum caliber of .30. No shotguns, bow & arrow or handguns are permitted.
  17. The whole dressed animal must be removed from the area.
  18. No liability will be assumed by the Shumagin Corporation for the observer, hunter or any other person or persons accompanying the observer and/or the hunter.
  19. The Shumagin Corporation makes no warranty or promise as to the availability or condition of buffalo.
  20. Hunters must agree to follow the instructions and direction provided by the observer. Decisions and directions of the observer are final.
  21. Five additional buffalo will be available for $5,000.00 each. First come first served.
