Juneau, AK – Governor Parnell today reiterated his efforts to create economic opportunity for Alaska’s families during a gubernatorial debate hosted by the Juneau Chamber of Commerce. This debate marks the seventh time Parnell squared off against his challengers in their effort to upset the popular incumbent.

In front of a full house, Governor Parnell detailed his work and plans for moving Alaska’s economy forward. The governor noted his work to lower cruise ship head taxes and increase tourism marketing. In addition to growing Alaska’s tourism industry, Alaska’s governor funded $100 million in deferred maintenance that includes “hammer ready” projects throughout the state, and delivered oil and gas tax credits that create Alaska jobs.

In order to ensure the safety of Alaska’s families, Governor Parnell championed legislation to end the epidemic of domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska.

In addition to building a gasline, Parnell supports a comprehensive approach to resource development, which includes roads to resources, timber development, and alternative energy. The governor is also committed to fiscal responsibility in the years ahead.

Bill Walker is admittedly a one issue candidate. “Being governor is about more than just a single issue,” Parnell said in his closing statement. “I would be honored to serve you for four more years as governor.”
