The bill provides $141.1 billion in FY 2011 funding. The measure provides funding for Department of Defense activities, including $13.7 billion for military construction, $1.8 billion for family housing, and $1.3 billion in emergency funds for construction activities in Afghanistan. The Department of Veterans Affairs would receive the bulk of the funding at $120.8 billion. This bill also includes language, similar to language inserted by Rep. Young in last year’s bill, that allows veterans who reside in rural Alaska to obtain medical services (including behavioral and dental) from medical facilities supported by the Indian Health Service or tribal organizations, and provides for reimbursement for those services from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Alaska has a great role to play in our country's military defenses and I'm pleased this bill recognizes the importance of their mission," said Rep. Young. "I am proud to support legislation that assists our armed men and women as they fight to defend our freedoms."
