Sand Point kept it close in the 1st quarter, but the Newhalen Malamutes grew their lead to 20 points by the end of the 1st half. Sand Point never gave up, but time ran out before they could mount a tying come back. Newhalen goes on to play Pt. Alsworth in round 2 of the regional tournament, while Sand Point bumps down to the Consolation Bracket with a chance to fight their way to 2nd place. The ladies play again on Friday, March 8.

Sand Point was firing on all cylinders in this early morning game against Ft. Yukon to wrap up the Crowley Classic with a 5th place finish and a decisive win. Coming off a rough day of loses yesterday in what was without a doubt the toughest bracket of the tournament. The Lady Eagles come back from their road trip and prepare for Regionals, which begins in the first week of March!

Nikolaevsk kept their lead throughout the game, though Sand Point kept bringing things in close. Towards the end of the fourth quarter the Warriors really pulled away as Sand Point struggled to engage their offense the way we’ve seen them do earlier in the season. Coming off of illness and a long road-trip, Sand Point never really got up to speed and play the game we’ve seen them play earlier in the season. The Rookies had one of their best challenges this season going up against the expected State Bound Tri-Valley Vikings, to kick off the Crowley Classic for the Aleutians East Borough Squad. The airtight defense of King Cove kept Tri-Valley from ever being able to make a full come back, though they were consistently knocking at the door for much of the match-up. The Rookies go on to play Nicolivisk later today in what is expected to be one of the better challenges the Rookies will face.
