The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will be conducting a preseason fishery stakeholder’s meeting on Tuesday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the Sand Point City Chambers. ADF&G will teleconference with both King Cove (at the Harbor House) and False Pass. The meeting will be broadcast live right here, on KSDP 830AM Sand Point and livestreamed at apradio.org.
There are a limited number of teleconference lines. If you would like to call into the meeting, please contact the ADF&G office in Sand Point for the call-in information.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide all interested parties an opportunity to discuss the upcoming salmon season with ADF&G staff.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
The City of Sand Point is asking everyone to self isolate upon arrival for a 7-day period and then get tested for COVID-19.
Regular activities may resume upon confirmation of a negative test result. This request does not apply to essential workers or those involved in the commercial fishing industry; State of Alaska health mandates cover those individuals, and relevant information for those workers can be found at covid19.alaska.gov.
KSDP will be broadcasting an Aleutians East Borough fisherman’s Zoom call to answer questions from fishermen about relief programs.

The Pinks and Chums are building in the Alaska Peninsula and Shumagin Islands, but more work is yet to be done if any opportunities for fishing are allowed in this even year.

This edition of In the Loop contains information regarding two programs that are available to help local fishing and other businesses confronting the current challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic (the CARES Act Relief Funding for Alaska Fishery Participants and the Paycheck Protection Program). KSDP General Manager Austin Roof will feature two interviews on the programs on Tuesday August 4th at 11 a.m. and at 2 p.m.
This edition also contains information from the Aleutians East Borough School District regarding non-internet-based virtual solutions to make distance learning accessible to students in the district. Students will have the ability to interact with teachers and access study materials at home.
The Shumagin Island Salmon Fishery has been restricted. The upcoming opener will begin on Saturday, June 20 at 6am and close at 10pm on Sunday June 21, 2020.
